John Taylor亡くなる

英国出身の鍵盤楽器奏者、John Taylorが7月17日、心不全のため亡くなりました。享年72歳。西フランスのセグレ村で開催されたサヴール・ジャズ・フェスティバルでの演奏中、グランドピアノにもたれかかるように倒れ、病院に搬送。死亡が確認されたそうです。

長いキャリアのわりにリーダー作が少ないので、日本での知名度はいまひとつの印象を受けますが、60年代後半から70年代初頭のジャズロック期、70年代中盤からのECM時代と息の長い活躍を続けてきました。現代ジャズ、コンテンポラリー系ジャズの主要作品に数多く参加し、後世に受け継がれる名演を残してきた功績は大いに讃えられてもいいと思います。

個人的にはジャズロック期でのJohn Surmanとの共演作、ECM時代でのKenny WheelerやJan Garbarekとの共演作が印象に残っています。以下に参加作品をあげます。意外なところではDavid Sylvianとの共演作も。あらためて合掌です。
